| Registering | All tracks must be registered by |
| Originality | All songs, both lyrics and music, must be totally original and written and recorded by you. A group of collaborators may also create a song as long as all parties involved understand and agree to the guidelines shown here and know that the work is for this CD Set. We are not responsible for any legal issues that may arise due to your work not being original. |
| Inspiration | All songs must be inspired by Chris de Burgh's work; this CD Set is not a sounding ground for songs that you may have written for other reason. Inspiration can come in many flavors and can include style, substance, or just the belief that you can also write and record your own song. |
| Inspiration Essay | To help prevent submission of songs not inspired by Chris de Burgh's work, we are requiring any singer/musician to submit a small essay (approximately 100-200 words) for each song that explains and describes how Chris de Burgh's work inspired you. We reserved the right to not include any songs that we deem a song not inspired by Chris de Burgh. |
| Biography | For the creation of the Tribute CD booklet and website, we kindly ask you to also submit a little "bio" (e.g., who are you, where you are from, why you chose your song, etc) and a picture along with your submission. |
| Submission | The final deadline for submitting your registered song is October 15, 2007. |
| Agreement on use of tracks | Once you have submitted your track to the project, you give us irrevocable permission to publish it on the tribute CD set without remuneration. We assure you that we will not alter your track unless it is necessary for technical reasons. In this case we would integrate you into the process. By submitting your original work you grant us a non-exclusive right to reproduce your music and lyric on the CD set and the tribute CD website. All other rights remain with the author(s) of the work. |
| Decision about song selection | Only 74 minutes (approximately 20 tracks) will fit on each CD and
there is no guarantee that we will use the entire 74 minutes. We
have created sub-committees to serve as listening panels. These
panels will listen to every track and score them according to
performance, originality, quality, inspiration, and special
considerations. It is up to each member of the listening panels to
weigh the importance of the criteria for himself/herself by giving a
percentage point based on a 100-point scale. The category of special
considerations is for each member of the listening panels to take
into consideration those elements of the song that he/she feels are
important (e.g., "group effort" or "special circumstances" such as if
a song is performed and recorded by a group of individuals who have
done so all via the internet or if a song is recorded in one take without the performer(s) having access to any major recording equipment). The listening panels make the final
decision as to which songs appear on the CD Set and the running order
of those songs. Anyone and everyone are encouraged to participate in this project. As in the past, this does not preclude those on the listening panels. It has always been the policy that if a member of a listening panel submits a song, he/she can not vote for his/her own work, but the result of this particular member’s vote is the average of the remaining judges. The contributing panel member will in no way take part in the voting process of his/her song. We want each contributor to understand the scoring process and suggest that anyone who has questions or concerns to contact the panel via email. If you subscribe to our contributor mailing list, we will keep you up to date about the decision process. In case your song is not selected for the final CD Set, it will automatically be registered for next year's project. Songs that do not make the CD Set will be available to download as "bonus tracks" from the Tribute website. Please understand that we do not promise and/or guarantee that your song will make it to the final CD Set and we reserve the right not to include or refuse any song for any reason. |
| Questions | There are many items and situations that are not covered by these guidelines. Please ask any questions that you may have via the mailing list. The committee reserves the right to make any changes to the guidelines and any decisions by the committee are final. |
