Seattle Rain

Sina Seger
Uzwil, Switzerland

My name is Sina Seger and I come from Uzwil, Switzerland. I was born on the 8th of August in 1989. I still go to school and I will take my Swiss maturity exams in 2008. I have always loved music, my first “recordings” were taken with a cassette recorder when I was 2 years old singing children’s songs. I started playing the whistle when I was 7, changed to the violin aged 9 and added piano lessons to my weekly schedule when I was 15. A year ago I started taking vocal lessons together with my sister. Music means a lot to me; it’s something that expresses way more than any words could on their own.

My mum used to listen to Chris de Burghs music and I always liked it, but when she took me to a concert in Switzerland when I was 10 years old I really started loving his music. My favourite songs were Borderline and Snows of New York. When I read about the contest I decided to try and participate also in the inspired song contest. I wrote Seattle Rain and another song called Prom Queen, but I decided only to record and submit Seattle Rain because it meant much more to me and was not only written for the contest but also for my best friend who’s going to leave Switzerland and make her way to the states. The song is inspired by Snows of New York, talking about friends who leave and the ones left behind wishing not to be forgotten. It’s a song coming from the heart which has two aims: firstly to tell Zan how much she means to me and secondly to be a tribute to Chris de Burgh, the singer and songwriter that influenced me and my music most.

Snows of New York has always been one of my favourite CdeB songs. I love the deep meaning of the lyrics and the friendship that seems to be behind it often made me wish for something similar. Well, I got a friend that carries me through the sand and a friend I can also carry at times. When she told me she would emigrate to the states in a year I first felt endlessly sad. Then, the song Snows of New York came into my mind and first of all made me cry. Secondly the wish appeared inside of me to write something similar for my friend.

The typical New York snows Chris de Burgh sings about creates to me an atmosphere of loneliness, and so does the city. I wanted to do kind of the same, as emigrating always seems to be a new start without many people to turn to. So I chose the city of Seattle where she’s going to live and the typical weather there, rain.

This is for you, Zan, my little American girl. I wish you all the best for your future and hey never forget me…

"Seattle Rain" did not appear on the tribute CD. But you can download the track when you right-click and "save as" here as a bonus track.

Lyrics:

We’re still here together, but our ways are gonna part
When you’re gone, you’ll still be staying here in my heart
You are a friend like I never had it before
I don’t think I’ll find someone like you anymore

Way too soon you’re gonna leave
But life’s like this, so just believe
It’s not forever goodbye

When you’re feeling blue, all alone
Cause Seattle rain is falling down
Think back to the time we had
And smile for me, don’t be sad

We’ve been helping each other through the bad times
You’ve been a great support for me in sad times
We’re like sisters, and so we’re often told
Truly blessed by the Lord

You’ve been a gift into my life
And so I hope
It’s not forever goodbye

When you’re feeling blue, all alone
Cause Seattle rain is falling down
Think back to the time we had
And smile for me, don’t be sad

When you’re feeling blue, feeling down
Cause Seattle rain is falling down
Think back to the time we had
And smile for me, don’t be sad
